The Historic Victorian Charm of the Idlewyld Inn

keyThe Idlewyld Inn, originally an old Victorian mansion built-in 1878, is still gracing London, Ontario with its grand presence after 135 years. Over the years it has been converted into luxury apartments, a nursing home and in 1986, to the distinguished Inn it is today. With most of its history and charm preserved, the Inn offers very comfortable facilities, in-house dining, a garden courtyard for those warm summer nights and friendly staff.

I had the pleasure of staying here in February and the first thing I noticed when I arrived was the beautiful original stained glass windows embedded in the large wooden doors. You can feel the history of the Inn when you first walk in, and when they hand you a real key with your room number on it, you feel like you should be wearing a long elegant gown and carrying a parasol rather than a briefcase.

The room I stayed in was a nice size, with a comfortable bed and a desk and to my delight a large Jacuzzi tub. I travel a lot for work and if there is one thing that I really appreciate is a relaxing soak in the bath. They even provide a nice selection of bathroom necessities.  All rooms come with a LCD television and something that you do not see in many hotels these days, actual drinking glasses, not the usual plastic. A glass for water and, thank you, a wine glass. Such a treat.

bedroomYou cannot make coffee in your room but when I checked in I was informed that coffee and tea was available at any time, I just had to ask.

As I was meeting a friend for dinner the night I stayed here, I didn’t have the opportunity to try their evening cuisine; but I did enjoy a wonderful breakfast.  The atmosphere is very relaxing which is a great way to start the day.

To add to all the old-worldly charm they also offer the convenience of booking online.
