Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgic

Tags :

I took this photo of The Time Machine museum in Bromyard, Kent as I couldn’t believe that they had Daleks in the window. They were just cardboard cutouts, but it still bought memories of my childhood flooding back.

I was born and raised in England and I grew up watching a series called Dr. Who, it was like a british staple. I remember being really afraid of the Daleks, but I was very young when I saw it for the first time. I can still hear them saying in their robotic voices, “exterminate, exterminate”.

There are eleven actors who have played the role of Dr. Who over the years, and it is still as popular today as it was back then. The actors I grew up with playing the role were, Patrick Troughton (2nd doctor), Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker; Tom Baker being the only actor who is still alive at age 79.

The other great actors who have played Dr. Who are as follows, shown from the first to the most current:

William Hartnell
Patrick Troughton
Jon Pertwee
Tom Baker
Peter Davison
Colin Baker
Sylvester McCoy
Paul McGann
Christopher Eccleston
David Tennant
Matt Smith

Matt Smith quit the role in June of this year, so It will be interesting to see who the next ‘Doctor’ is going to be.

I recently watched some of the latest episodes with David Tennant playing the role, which I thought were fantastic, so I can understand why Dr. Who still has die-hard fans.

I must also give a shout out to John Barrowman who played Captain Jack Harkness on the Dr. Who episodes. His character is the star of a recent spinoff series called Torchwood, which I watched on Netflix and really enjoyed.

Did any of you grow up watching Dr. Who?, or perhaps you are a fan of the show today.

I can’t believe I missed this one! Great take on the theme. I grew up watching Doctor Who (Tom Baker was my #1) and when they rebooted the series, I turned my son on to it. He’s a huge Dalek fan (what can I say my son has an anti-hero streak about him).

Thanks Pete and so happy to hear that you grew up with it too. Plus terrific to know that your son is following in his father’s footsteps. Did you also find yourself saying “exterminate, exterminate”, in your best Dalek warble?? LOL!

I found the Daleks very frightening too but I was struck by the inside of the TARDIS when I first saw it.

I do admit that Dr Who is one show I have never watched.

I am not sure that I would either Colline, had I not grown up watching it. But it has been running for 50 years now 🙂

Yes it is very quaint in a very small town in England. My mum who lives around the area didn’t even know it was there.

That’s such a cool looking little museum!
I watch Dr Who avidly – over and over again! All the new stuff and I’m gradually rebuilding my “original series” stuff, which disappeared along with my last VCR.

That will be an awesome collection once it’s complete. When you watch the old stuff though it really does make you smile. It made me wonder how, with the lack of technology back then, I could have so afraid of the Daleks..LOL!

I still watch Dr Who – waiting impatiently for the next installment ( and to find out who is playing the new Doctor!) I didn’t watch it as a kid, though – we didn’t have a TV…

Its a lovely piece of Nostalgic. – Television was introduced to Colombo Metropolitan region in Sri Lanka in the early Nineteen eighties so I missed out so much. Many of my workmates and friends in Australia raves about Dr. Who.
My first memories of the television is the British comedy ” Mind your language” with Mr. Brown as an English teacher, and the Royal wedding of Prince Charles and Diana.
Thanks for the mention! 🙂
