This is a freshly made Mojito and an extremely refreshing drink and with this heat wave we are ‘enjoying’ in Ontario one of these delicious drinks would go down very easily right now. The humidity this week has been unbearable, for me any way, so I thought of this drink instantly for the weekly photo challenge.
This drink was made in Cayo Coco, Cuba and the Cubans have this cocktail down to a fine art. I have tried making one myself but it’s just not the same; probably because there is no sun, white sand and beautiful blue water to go with it!
The reason I love this drink is because it is not sweet like most cocktails. It does have a small amount of sugar in it, I hasten to add, and here is the recipe if you are interested in trying one for yourself.
Teaspoon sugar (but you can add more if you prefer or use syrup
Lime Juice (half a lime)
Dash of Angostura bitters (optional)
Club Soda or Sparkling Water
White rum (single or double shot, up to you)
You put the sugar, lime juice and mint in a glass and then mush it together with a muddler, or the back of a spoon will work just as well if you don’t have the fancy bar tools. This brings out the flavour of the mint and stirs in the sugar.
Then add the rum and ice and top up your glass with club soda or sparkling water for a wonderful refreshing drink. You can add an extra sprig of mint for decoration if you are entertaining or feel so inclined.
Enjoy and stay frosty!
