I love this time of year as I really enjoy Christmas, it’s a very special occasion for me. I know this sentiment is not shared by everyone and that some people are not as fortunate as others when it comes to sharing time with family and friends, opening gifts and turkey dinners.
Like most of us I am sure, I always give or do something to help those whose Christmas is not going to be as merry as it should be and I know I could do a lot more. My contribution alone doesn’t do much to help the homeless and the hungry, but our collective contributions do. To me that is what the meaning of Christmas is all about. If everyone contributed in some small way, we would be this “unnamed” organization made up of people silently helping others in whatever way we were able. No monthly meetings, no membership fee, no organized events; just the simple act of giving with love is all that is required to become a part of this group.
Christmas is going to be different for my family this year, saying goodbye to much-loved traditions. Children are older now and family is far away so we will be celebrating tonight (Christmas Eve), instead of tomorrow, as everyone has their own plans. No Christmas morning champagne and orange juice while we take the time to open gifts one by one. Savoring every moment, enjoying smiling faces with hugs and kisses and laughter. No smelling the turkey while it slowly cooks, as it will be ready by the time everyone arrives tonight. Plus, we’ll only have a few hours all together instead of the luxury of the entire day. So I guess it’s time for us to create new traditions and how wonderful is that.
But please let me finish by saying that I am so very grateful for everything I have to look forward to at this time of year and every other day of the year. I am very grateful for my health, my family and friends, my job, a roof over my head, food to eat and for my love for God and the Angels. After all this is Jesus’ birthday which we sometimes forget as enjoy the celebrations.
May we all be thankful for everything that is wonderful in our lives and if our “unnamed” organization says a prayer for those who are in need, God will hear and it WILL make a difference.
God Bless everyone,
