I retired from creating historical tarot decks a few years ago, but I still have several designs that I never finished. I recently decided to complete a couple of these — and this deck is one them.
It’s an original 78‑card Tarot de Marseille inspired by the Grimaud Tarot de Marseille (c.1930), later reinterpreted in bold, saturated colours by Heraclio Fournier. My version preserves the traditional Marseille symbolism while offering a fresh, distinctive visual interpretation.
The Grimaud Tarot de Marseille traces back to the early 20th century, when the Parisian cardmaker B.P. Grimaud produced a now‑iconic 78‑card Marseille deck around 1930. This edition became one of the most recognizable Marseille patterns of its time, preserving the traditional structure and classic iconography that define the lineage. Decks were printed only briefly before production halted during the Second World War, making surviving decks relatively rare today. Modern reproductions and restorations continue to circulate because this deck represents a pivotal moment in Marseille tarot history—bridging older 18th–19th century woodcut traditions with the cleaner, more standardized look that shaped many later Marseille interpretations.
Who is this deck for:
- Tarot readers who appreciate historical Marseille decks
- Collectors seeking unique artistic interpretations
- Readers who enjoy different unique aesthetics
- Psychics and practitioners who value traditional symbolism
- Anyone wanting a deck that blends history with modern artistry
This deck is the usual tarot size of 2.75″ x 4.75″, printed on 330gsm superior smooth casino cardstock and packaged in a plain white tuck box. To see a gallery of the entire deck please click here.
There is no guidebook with this deck. If you are new to reading the Tarot, there are websites on the internet that offer free meanings and instructions on how to read the cards. Plus there are many how-to instruction books available on Amazon.
I offer a selection of designs for the back cover of this deck, if you go to Tarot Card Back Designs you are more than welcome to select one of these. Please include the name of the design you would like in the space provided when you place your order. If no custom back is chosen your deck will be printed with the standard back shown in the gallery.
I love bringing historical tarot systems back to life, and this deck was created with that passion in mind. I create my decks by hand, they are not computer generated as you can see by the authenticity of the historic origin.
