Versa 2 – Stuck in “Unlock With Your Device” – Here’s A Solution

Let me set the scene: I’m staring at my Fitbit Versa 2, which has decided to enter its rebellious teen phase. It won’t reboot. It won’t sync. It won’t accept the four-digit code it asked me to enter on my phone. It’s stuck on “Unlock with your device,” which is hilarious because the device in question is right there, trying its best to connect, and still getting ghosted.

I tried everything.
Factory reset? Nope.
Bluetooth forget-and-repair? Nada.
App reinstall, charger plug-in, button-holding rituals? All performed with the precision of a tech exorcist. Still, the Versa 2 sat there, smug and uncooperative.

So I did what any reasonable person would do after exhausting all logical options:

I whacked it.

Not a rage smash. Not a Hulk-style obliteration. Just a few firm, frustrated taps on the back of the watch as it lay limp on my desk. With what, you ask? You guessed it—my phone. Felt only fair to let it exact a little revenge for being so thoroughly ignored.

First round? Nothing. Second? Magic.

To my surprise and delight, the screen flickered. The lock screen vanished. The watch re-synced with my phone like nothing had happened. No apology. No explanation. Just a quiet “I’m ready now,” as if it hadn’t just spent hours gaslighting me.

Moral of the Story…Sometimes, tech support looks less like a help desk and more like a dramatic showdown between human willpower and silicon sass. I’m not saying watch-slamming should be your go-to fix, but when your device is finally rendered useless, what do you have to lose?

If you’re dealing with a Versa 2 that refuses to reboot, here’s my advice:

  • Try all the official steps first.
  • When those fail, channel your inner gremlin, and show it who’s the boss.
  • And if it works? Celebrate like you just won the arm-wrestling championship.

Fitbit, if you’re reading this: maybe add “Desk Slam Recovery Mode” to the next firmware update. Clearly, it’s effective.

This post really made me laugh, I have an old Versa 2 as well and it did the same thing. Locked me out and would not factory reset, no matter what. I just ended up tossing it away, I wish I had though about giving it a good whack. I don’t know why I didn’t to be honest!
