Rule of Thirds

I took this photograph when I was visiting Niagara Falls, but unfortunately this seagull was flying directly over the car park. Ugly tarmac was not something that I wanted as a background for my image, so using bokeh was the perfect solution using the ‘rule of thirds’ composition style.

In simple terms, rule of thirds is where the subject of interest takes up around one third of the entire image. This style is supposed to create a more balanced and interesting view. However, this is only one style choice, there are many different composition styles that also create very interesting and eye-catching results.

Below I combined the same photograph with a different image to create a little more drama and moodiness. Which one do you prefer?
