I love this time of year as I really enjoy Christmas, it’s a very special occasion for me. I know this sentiment is not shared by everyone and that some people are not as fortunate as others when it comes to sharing time with family and friends, opening gifts and enjoying turkey dinners. But after enduring over two years of not being able to be with family because of the pandemic, I am sure a lot of families will be enjoying the ‘togetherness’ so much more this year.
Like most of us I am sure, I always give or do something to help those whose Christmas is not going to be as merry as it should be and I know I could do a lot more. My contribution alone doesn’t do much to help the homeless and the hungry, but our collective contributions do. To me this is what the meaning of Christmas is all about. If everyone contributed in some small way, we would be this “unnamed” organization made up of people silently helping others in whatever way we are able. No monthly meetings, no membership fee, no organized events; just the simple act of giving with love is all that is required to become a part of this group.
Christmas is going to be different for me this year, saying goodbye to much-loved traditions. Children are older now and family members live far apart, so it’s going to be quiet, with just a few of us, as everyone has their own plans. No Christmas morning champagne and orange juice while we take the time to open gifts one by one. Savoring every moment, enjoying smiling faces with hugs, kisses and laughter. We will still enjoy the smell of a turkey cooking slowly in the oven, which is always such a treat. But I guess it’s time for me to create new traditions now, which is always fun!
But please let me finish by saying that I am so very grateful for everything I have to look forward to at this time of year and every other day of the year. I am very grateful for my health, my family and friends, my job, a roof over my head, food to eat and for my love for God and Spirit. After all this is Jesus’ birthday which we sometimes forget as we enjoy the celebrations.
May we all be thankful for everything that is wonderful in our lives and if our “unnamed” organization says a prayer for those who are in need, God will hear and it WILL make a difference.
God Bless everyone,
With love,
Pennie
