ReFRESHing Drink – Mojito’s Anyone!

This is a freshly made Mojito and an extremely refreshing drink and with this heat wave we are ‘enjoying’ in Ontario one of these delicious drinks would go down very easily right now. The heat today has been an amazing 28°C and its only the 12 May, so I thought of this drink instantly for the weekly photo challenge that I participate in.

The drink in the plastic cup was made in Cayo Coco, Cuba and the Cubans have this cocktail down to a fine art. I have tried making one myself but it’s just not the same; probably because there is no sun, white sand and beautiful blue water to go with it!

Ahhhh a mojito 🙂

The reason I love this drink is because it is not sweet like most cocktails. It does have a small amount of sugar in it, I hasten to add, and here is the recipe if you are interested in trying one for yourself.

Teaspoon sugar (but you can add more if you prefer or use syrup
Lime Juice (half a lime)
Fresh mint
Dash of Angostura bitters (optional)
Club Soda or Sparkling Water
White rum (single or double shot, up to you)
Ice

You put the sugar, lime juice and mint in a glass and then mush it together with a muddler, or the back of a spoon will work just as well if you don’t have the fancy bar tools. This brings out the flavour of the mint and stirs in the sugar.

Then add the rum and ice and top up your glass with club soda or sparkling water for a wonderful refreshing drink. You can add an extra sprig of mint for decoration if you are entertaining or feel so inclined.

Enjoy and stay frosty!

Hey Eliizz, I have tried the barcardi mojito and I have to say it’s not bad and does save the hassle of having to make it yourself. However, it’s not quite the same as the real thing and sometimes when something takes a lot of effort to make, I actually appreciate it more. Plus, you don’t drink so many….LOL!

My mum was telling me how hot it was over there now, after a pretty lousy start to summer. I only wish you could drink Mojito’s all day, but alas that would not be good LOL!

now you know how much I love a mojito (included one in mine as well) and BTW in Barcelona they offer 2 ways of making one without the sugar!

Without sugar great, I am going to have to look for that recipe. Do you have a link or do you know it yourself?

No, so sorry it was on the menu in a couple of bars I went to in Barcelona (home to the perfect mojito).

LOL, I definitely wouldn’t drink one until I was done for the day, then it wouldn’t matter 🙂
